Presented by Kitka and Silk Road House:
Saina is an indigenous singer from the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia. She comes from a mixed heritage of native Siberian people, the Sakha and teh Evenk. Saina performs songs that have been passed down through the generations. She has studied with tribal elders and maintains the authentic timbres and intonations of these ancient songs. Saina sings in the traditional style and accompanies herself on instruments like the khomus and the shamanic drum. Her songs are a rich illustration of the Siberian landscape, with themes ranging from celebratory songs, shamanic rituals, and tunes that accompany everyday life of Siberia's nomadic peoples. Saina has presented the culture of her ancestors to audiences throughout North America, Russia, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and beyond.
