On March 10, 2019, Kitka, Oakland's own powerhouse women's vocal ensemble, celebrated its 40th Anniversary with an uplifting evening of soulful songs, stories and recollections gathered over decades of exploring collective singing traditions from Eastern Europe and beyond. More than three dozen women who have contributed their creativity to this trailblazing ensemble's journey came together for a magical evening of music and memories.
Special guests included Russian House Kedry, who performed Russian folk songs with Kitka, and Bulgarian vocalist and choirmaster Tzvetanka Varimezova, who made a special appearance as soloist and director of the Kitka Reunion Choir.
