"Khidebi" (Bridges) is a new incarnation of Kitka's Georgian Community Choir!
Khidebi is a mixed adult vocal ensemble dedicated to the study and celebration of the vast sonic landscapes of Georgia and its surrounding areas. This 11-week workshop/rehearsal series will focus on the diverse harmonies and vocal techniques of the Caucasus and neighboring Black Sea regions, paying particular attention to the pronunciation, folklore, folk dances, and cultural contexts of the repertoire. Khidebi's inaugural series will also include a rehearsal led by Kitka’s Temple of Light Georgian Community Choir founder Kristine Barrett on November 10, a masterclass with Georgian folk song master/scholar Carl Linich on November 24, as well as visits from other surprise special guest artists.

As space in the choir is limited, membership is by invitation (for returning Kitka Georgian Community Choir singers) and informal audition (for prospective new members) only.
The deadline for returning singers to renew their membership, and for prospective new members to submit audition materials is FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13. New members will be selected based on available space and the vocal needs of the ensemble. Prospective new members will be notified of their status by Wednesday, September 18.
Interested singers should send a brief statement of interest and/ or a description of your musical experience, a raw a cappella recordings (Mp3 or YouTube video link) of any one or two vocal piece(s) as an email attachment to this email address. (This can be as simple as a smart phone voice message recording of your rendition of “Happy Birthday!”)
An ability to match pitch/sing in tune, hold your own part while singing in harmony with others, willingness to listen and learn, and a sincere interest in digging into the nuances of this thrilling repertoire are required. No experience with Georgian music or language is necessary to audition or participate, though enough familiarity to generate excitement is a must!
For successful auditionees, Hannah Levy will send details and password for registration at the link below.
