The Women in Black Against War movement began in Argentina in 1988. Over the past decade, women in 25 countries have joined this non-violent protest for peace, standing in vigil to oppose war crimes routinely inflicted upon women and children throughout the world. Four years ago, this movement spread to the war-torn regions of former Yugoslavia. There, black-clad women of diverse faiths and backgrounds have stood together through the seasons, protesting the atrocities of ethnic conflict in the Balkans. This movement has been gathering momentum worldwide and speaks for women whose voices would otherwise remain silent. Please join us as we pay artistic tribute to the courage of Women in Black.
